Preparing for a one-to-one consultation with a milliner to get a custom headpiece made can be an exciting experience. It’s a chance to work with a professional to create a unique and personalised headpiece that perfectly complements your outfit and reflects your personal style. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your consultation at Reel Designs:

Research styles and designs: Before your consultation, do some research on different styles and designs of headpieces. Look through our online shop and gallery to get inspiration for what you might like. 

Bring your outfit: It’s important we know your outfit and the colors, fabrics, and textures it incorporates. This will help us to create a headpiece that perfectly complete your look. If your outfit is custom-made, you can bring along a swatch of the fabric and a photo.

Top Tip: You may also want to bring your bag, shoes or any other accessories you may like to match that you may have with you for your consumption. 

Have a budget in mind: Custom headpieces can vary in price, so it’s important to have a budget in mind before your consultation. Be open and honest with your milliner about your budget, so they can work within your means to create a design that works for you. Be open to suggestions: While it’s important to have ideas and inspiration, be open to suggestions from our milliner Reel. She is an expert in her field and may have ideas or designs that you haven’t considered. She will collaborate with you to create a headpiece that is tailored to your individual style, face shape, outfit and hair.

Bring ONE trusted friend or family member: It can be helpful to have someone with you who knows your style and taste, and can offer a second opinion or advice during the consultation. However, it’s important to keep in mind that too many opinions can be overwhelming and lead to confusion. Stick to one trusted person who can help you make decisions and provide constructive feedback. Ultimately, the final decision should be yours, but having a trusted friend or family member can provide helpful support during the process.

Don’t leave your consultation to the last minute: Custom-made hats and headpieces take time to make and often times materials need to be sourced which can take a few weeks! You might also need to come in for a fitting to decide on the final detailing so don’t put yourself (or us) under unnessesary pressure the week before the wedding when you should be getting excited for the big day! So, once you’ve decided on your outfit, it’s not to early to book in!
